Failure

Good Morning,

My wife and I are about to embark on a new fitness training program. We both stay active and work out regularly, but wanted to change it up since our current routine is growing stale. Our new program pushes you to use your muscle groups to the point of failure. What I found interesting was the way the word "failure" is used in this context.

To weight lifters, failure is success. Unless they lift a weight to the point of "failure," their muscles aren't growing. So they have programmed themselves, through repetition, to use the word "failure" in a positive sense. They also call what we would consider "pain" as something positive: "the burn." Getting to "the burn" is the goal! You'll hear bodybuilders call out to each other: "Roast 'em!" By changing the language, they acquire access to an inner power through the use of the human will.

My point in this day and age of spoon fed information and email relationships is that language leads to power. To optimize our levels of inspiration and motivation, we need to conscious of the creative potential of the language we use on a daily basis.

Have a thoughtful day and look at it this way - the limits of our language mean the limits of our world.
